The problem is that if you have nothing in ~/Templates (or if that directory doesn't exist), the "Create document" list only shows "Empty file", which is a useless command. It doesn't give any indication on how to add templates, or how the feature works in general.

I agree with your last sentence, but "Empty file" is certainly not useless for me.
