[Bug 250986] New: Banshee: Make it optional to have Banshee block Suspend
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=250986 Summary: Banshee: Make it optional to have Banshee block Suspend Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 1plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mboman@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Trying to suspend my laptop while having banshee running is not possible. A notification tells me that the suspend was prevented by Banshee (see screenshot). I would like to be able to suspend my machine even if Banshee is running (possibly configurable via a plugin?). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I just tried it now and if it's not playing then I can suspend. My problem with having Banshee preventing this operation is that I often just close the lid and put the laptop in my backpack. I would not be able to hear that its still playing, but 30 minutes later, the laptop would not be in a good shape with the heat generated. Perhaps Banshee can pause the music when a Suspend request comes in and then allow the Suspend? That would be good enough. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=250986 ------- Comment #4 from abockover@novell.com 2007-03-03 11:45 MST ------- The whole point of the feature is to inhibit suspending when music *is* playing. Many systems are configured to suspend after X minutes of inactivity. If your intentions are to play music for an extended period of time and not interact with the system, you'd want the suspension inhibited. I'm not convinced adding a UI preference to disable this is really necessary. If you are going to suspend or walk away and not want to listen to music, press pause. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

That's fair enough. I just had a look at the source code and noticed the DBus interface to Banshee, so I can send a DBus command to pause/stop playing from pm utils. Closing this one as WONTFIX. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
