[Bug 337795] New: No Keyboard an Mouse (both USB) during installation, in installation kernel
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=337795 Summary: No Keyboard an Mouse (both USB) during installation, in installation kernel Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jan@promo.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=181201) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=181201) hwinfo output from the running openSuse 10.2 Hello, I have a problem (USB keyboard and mouse) with installing openSuSE 10.3 on an SUN Hardware (SUN workstation with AMD Opteron). During the first steps (select language etc)it works fine and I am using the option "installation" with german language and x86_64 Kernel. Then the installation system with YAST is loading and now I could not use keyboard and mouse, no reaction. I have tested ACPI disabled, local APIC, safe settings, x86 Kernel, x86_64 Kernel. Always the same error, I could not install 10.3 because no keyboard/mouse (USB). I have an hwinfo-output, taken with the running 10.2 x86_64 installation on this system. BTW: With openSuSE 10.1 and 10.2 everything works fine. The SUN Hardware is a "Sun Java Workstation W1100z", AMD Opteron, 1GB Memory, 2*82GB HD, USB Keyboard, USB Mouse, Phoenix BIOS. Thank you for your bugreport.
Could you please attach YaST2 logs? If in doubt follow: http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST
Please attach also /var/log/messages from your installation. Thanks!
the keyboard and the mouse (both USB) does not work when I reach the installation system with YaST2. Can you say how can I save the requestet Data ?? Once again. I choose installation in the first menue (keyboard works !), then came the message "loading installation system", then comes YaST2 and the keyboard/mouse does not work ! When I use a non graphical installation, I see "Activating USB devices - OK", then "loading installation system" and then the keyboard/mouse does not work. This system does not have an PS2 Port ! Only USB Ports ! Greetings Jan -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When it doesn't work in graphics installation nor in the text it looks like kernel issue.

It is difficult to say whether this is a kernel issue or not, as the keyboard originally works at the start of the installation.
Is there any way you could possibly attach a serial cable and capture serial console output on another machine? We'll need to see whether there are any USB/HID related error messages in the kernel log.

Same here with a w2100z but then I upgraded the bios with the suppliment 2.5 cd Bios Version R01-B5 S1 and I am now installing 10.3.
http://www.sun.com/desktop/workstation/w1100z/downloads.jsp
Strange because the Fedora 8 fc2 works just fine as does the openSUSE 10.2.
thanks for this information ! After I have updatet the BIOS from "R01-B5 S0" BIOS-Date 03/17/06 to "R01-B5 S1" BIOS-Date 09/29/06 the installation of openSuSE 10.3 works fine. Very strange because openSuSE 10.2 works fine with the older BIOS.
