[Bug 337795] New: No Keyboard an Mouse (both USB) during installation, in installation kernel
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=337795 Summary: No Keyboard an Mouse (both USB) during installation, in installation kernel Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jan@promo.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=181201) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=181201) hwinfo output from the running openSuse 10.2 Hello, I have a problem (USB keyboard and mouse) with installing openSuSE 10.3 on an SUN Hardware (SUN workstation with AMD Opteron). During the first steps (select language etc)it works fine and I am using the option "installation" with german language and x86_64 Kernel. Then the installation system with YAST is loading and now I could not use keyboard and mouse, no reaction. I have tested ACPI disabled, local APIC, safe settings, x86 Kernel, x86_64 Kernel. Always the same error, I could not install 10.3 because no keyboard/mouse (USB). I have an hwinfo-output, taken with the running 10.2 x86_64 installation on this system. BTW: With openSuSE 10.1 and 10.2 everything works fine. The SUN Hardware is a "Sun Java Workstation W1100z", AMD Opteron, 1GB Memory, 2*82GB HD, USB Keyboard, USB Mouse, Phoenix BIOS. When I use a non graphical installation, I see "Activating USB devices - OK", then "loading installation system" and then the keyboard/mouse does not work. This system does not have an PS2 Port ! Assuming you still have working 10.2 installation on this system, could you please try booting it with 10.3 kernel, so that we can potentially rule out problem in the kernel. Same here with a w2100z but then I upgraded the bios with the suppliment 2.5 cd Bios Version R01-B5 S1 and I am now installing 10.3.
http://www.sun.com/desktop/workstation/w1100z/downloads.jsp
Strange because the Fedora 8 fc2 works just fine as does the openSUSE 10.2.
thanks for this information ! After I have updatet the BIOS from "R01-B5 S0" BIOS-Date 03/17/06 to "R01-B5 S1" BIOS-Date 09/29/06 the installation of openSuSE 10.3 works fine. Very strange because openSuSE 10.2 works fine with the older BIOS.
