[Bug 438966] New: Kernel 2.6.22.19-0.1-default doesn' t work with lilo and my system (no network)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=438966 Summary: Kernel 2.6.22.19-0.1-default doesn't work with lilo and my system (no network) Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: suse-linux@ml082.pinguin.uni.cc QAContact: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Community User I described the problem already in German at http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-de/2008-10/msg00788.html While the Kernel-Update to 2.6.22.19-0.1-default worked with every system which uses grub, it didn't work with lilo and maybe there is a connection with the chips used n the Epox-motherboard and SATA. First the the kernel didn't work with a running system, which is mainly used as file-server. I updated the 1st time with smart and saw a few errors when the boot configuration was written. Sorry I don't have this output. The installation of the kernel remained uncommented with smart. The system started, but the network didn't work anymore, except a ping to localhost, but to no other host. Run-level-editor showed only "???" for all services. I tried a lot and at the end I installed a minimal Opensuse 10.3 on this system. So there were no 3rd-party packages installed for sure. After the kernel-update (now with yast-console) of the minimal system there was the same problem. I couldn't ping any other host. 2.6.22.18-0.2-default works fine. It is a problem too to install 11.0 on this system, the SATA-drives are not recognized correctly. There is a long break short after the start and the drives are recognized as hdx instead of sdx. If I try to use grub with this system and 10.3, the nfs-installation works fine until the first reboot and then the system is waiting forever. I think it is a problem of the 2 SATA.drives with this board, because grub works, if I remove the SATA-drives. Below is the output of hwinfo. If you need more hardware details let me know. I have a lot of info stored, as it was before it worked. In the meantime I have setup the system again with 2.6.22.18-0.2-default and freezed this kernel, so a kernel-update isn't made. cpu: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+, 2000 MHz keyboard: /dev/input/event0 AT Translated Set 2 keyboard mouse: /dev/input/mice ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse monitor: Generic Monitor graphics card: ASUSTeK GeForce2 MX/MX 400 sound: Trident Microsystems 4DWave NX storage: Floppy disk controller VIA VT6420 SATA RAID Controller EPoX VT82C586A/B/VT82C686/A/B/VT823x/A/C PIPC Bus Master IDE network: eth0 D-Link DFE-530TX rev A network interface: lo Loopback network interface eth0 Ethernet network interface disk: /dev/sda Maxtor 6B200M0 /dev/sdb Maxtor 6B200M0 /dev/sdc IC35L120AVV207-1 /dev/sdd Hitachi HDT72504 partition: /dev/sda1 Partition /dev/sda2 Partition /dev/sda3 Partition /dev/sdb1 Partition /dev/sdb2 Partition /dev/sdb3 Partition /dev/sdc1 Partition /dev/sdc2 Partition /dev/sdc5 Partition /dev/sdc6 Partition /dev/sdc7 Partition /dev/sdc8 Partition /dev/sdc9 Partition /dev/sdc10 Partition /dev/sdc11 Partition /dev/sdc12 Partition /dev/sdc13 Partition /dev/sdd1 Partition cdrom: /dev/sr0 TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1612 floppy: /dev/fd0 Floppy Disk usb controller: EPoX VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1 Controller EPoX VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1 Controller EPoX VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1 Controller EPoX USB 2.0 bios: BIOS bridge: VIA VT8377 [KT400/KT600 AGP] Host Bridge VIA VT8237 PCI Bridge VIA VT8235 ISA Bridge hub: Linux 2.6.22.18-0.2-default uhci_hcd UHCI Host Controller Linux 2.6.22.18-0.2-default uhci_hcd UHCI Host Controller Linux 2.6.22.18-0.2-default uhci_hcd UHCI Host Controller Linux 2.6.22.18-0.2-default ehci_hcd EHCI Host Controller memory: Main Memory unknown: FPU DMA controller PIC Timer RTC Keyboard controller /dev/lp0 Parallel controller PS/2 Controller PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device PnP Unclassified device /dev/ttyS0 16550A /dev/ttyS1 16550A -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
