[Bug 755386] New: packagekit-backend-zypper install updates that don't exist
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=755386 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=755386#c0 Summary: packagekit-backend-zypper install updates that don't exist Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: volker3204@paradise.net.nz QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/534.34 (KHTML, like Gecko) konqueror/4.7.2 Safari/534.34 None of these offered updates are actually available. Note the version number. Apper always has at least several packages to update that aren't even installed. When performing the update, an error message says "can't find package ...". Because then there continually are packages to update, which is shown in the panel, the whole program is of little benefit (I don't need it to update packages, and it doesn't tell me when there are updates available). See screenshot. http://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=70014 I've been told the bug is with packagekit-backend-zypper, see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297104 This makes update handling with apper on openSUSE 12.1 de-facto unusable, and it's been going on for 3 months or more. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE 12.1 with KDE desktop 2. Run a normal desktop, with apper in the panel 3. Observe the continuous updates that are being offered but which don't even exist. Error "the files relating to this package couldn't be found" or some such. Expected Results: Apper as panel icon only shows if there are updates available. "Available" means for the packages currently installed on the system (others are of no interest). When clicking on the apper panel icon, updtes are installed, and only those that need updating. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

None of these offered updates are actually available. Note the version number.
What apper shows in the screenshot are patches (not packages). I find all of them being available at http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/. A patch is named 'openSUSE-<YEAR>-<ISUUE_NUMBER>'. Roughly, a patch conflicts with a set of vulnerable package versions. If any of these package versions is installed on your system, the patch should be offered to you. The list apper shows, should be basically the same as 'zypper list-patches' shows. If you want to see the vulnerable package versions, you can call 'zypper info -t patch openSUSE-<YEAR>-<ISUUE_NUMBER>'. The affected packages are listed below 'Conflicts:'. You can use this to verify that each patch offered to you, mentions at one package installed on your system with vulnerable version. For the "can't find package ..." error please start apper, reproduce the error and then attach the PackageKit logfile (/var/log/pk_backend_zypp) to this bug report. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
