It fixes when creating a xorg.conf file that has: Section "Files" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/URW" EndSection Being /usr/share/fonts/URW a softlink to /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts/, from the ghostscript-fonts-std package. Looking at Xorg.0.log it seems the X server has a harcoded list of font dirs: /usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled, /usr/share/fonts/truetype/, /usr/share/fonts/Type1/, /usr/share/fonts/100dpi:unscaled, /usr/share/fonts/75dpi:unscaled That doesn't includes all the needed ones. I obtained the /usr/share/fonts/URW one generating a xorg.conf file with sax2, but there are two other valid paths in my system that aren't included: /usr/share/fonts/Speedo and /usr/share/fonts/cyrillic. sax2 added even more, not available in my system but perhaps valid in others.
