Umm, ah, I misinterpreted the transaction dump from the previous test run - the buffer is not refiled from BJ_Forget list but from BJ_None list which is why the WARN_ON did not trigger. http://beta.suse.com/private/jack/747122/ contains a kernel built with the updated debug patch. I never thought of this possibility because I saw the filesystem has several GB but now, from the pure despair, I looked into that possibility and that would explain everything. Also when I try beating 1 KB filesystem in data=journal mode, I get the assertion failure in about 10 seconds. I have yet to think how to fix this subtle problem but at least I now fully understand what's going on.
