[Bug 235396] New: kdnssd does not support avahis libdns_sd compat library
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=235396 Summary: kdnssd does not support avahis libdns_sd compat library Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: lurch@gmx.li QAContact: qa@suse.de kdnssd checks for the existence of the mdns daemon pid file, which is /var/run/mdnssd.pid, but avahi uses /var/run/avahi/pid See http://websvn.kde.org/tags/KDE/3.5.5/kdelibs/dnssd/servicebrowser.cpp?rev=591452&view=markup for the relevant sourcecode please let KDE check for both files or create a symlink in the avahi daemon startup script (should be ok, as avahi conflicts mdns-Responder) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Also in the upstream code the location of the pid file is hardcoded. Please re-assign to gnome if you discover otherwise about check via the library. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The mDNSResponder library does not provide a call to check if the daemon is available. the only thing that we could do is to check if DNSServiceRefSockFD() returns something sensible. but is that defined to work with avahi? I have my doubts. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If its still a problem we can add a pid sym link to the compat package. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
