Because the installed open-vm-tools package requires vmware-guest-kmp.
But why wasn't it removed as well (and any other packages in the way)?
(I think 'zyyper rm' should only enable the target repo, people don't expect installs when they remove packages.)

The solver doesn't have an "erase" mode, where it only erases. It has to cope with multiple installation/erase requests (when the UI is used). It just sees the unfulfilled dependency and resolves it by installing another package. The simplest workaround is to disable all repos for 'zypper rm'.
