[Bug 586711] New: no wireless connection after kde 4 login: iwl3945 must be reloaded to activate wlan0
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=586711 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=586711#c0 Summary: no wireless connection after kde 4 login: iwl3945 must be reloaded to activate wlan0 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: andi@opensuse-id.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=347417) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=347417) The attachment tells the log (var/log/messages) of 3 steps workaround described. User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.0) Gecko/20100115 SUSE/3.6.0-1.10 Firefox/3.6 After login to KDE 4 desktop, Wireless connection is disabled in KNetworkManager, and the LED is off. wlan0 does not appear in 'ifconfig' command, except 'iwconfig', so 'ifconfig wlan0 up' will result: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 The "only" workaround (to get it worked) is by: 1. Switching the LED (Wireless Communication Button) on (it still off though) 2. Running: su -c 'service network restart' 3. Running: su -c 'modprobe -r iwl3945 && modprobe iwl3945' After that the LED is on, and finally wireless connection appears in KnetworkManager again and it can connect to any Access Point. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Disable all openSUSE 11.2 repositories, and add factory:repo:oss and factory:repo:non-oss repositories 2. 'zypper dup' to openSUSE 11.3 M3 (KDE 4.4) 3. Login to KDE 4 Actual Results: Wireless connection is disabled in KNetworkManager, and the LED is off. Expected Results: The LED is on, and wireless connection appears in KnetworkManager again and it can connect to any Access Point. It failed to get wlan0 up if the steps on the workaround is done randomly. It is on Acer Aspire 5620. wlan0 does not appear in 'ifconfig' command, except 'iwconfig', so 'ifconfig wlan0 up' will result: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132
132 means ERFKILL. That is the adaptre cannot be set up because of hardware switch. What's the contents of /sys/class/rfkill/*/* after halt-powerup cycle? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What is driver;wireless?
It is typo. Sorry for the noise. The rfkill is in OBS Package rfkill (Project driver:wireless) . I have no problems with iwl3945 [1] in 11.3 [2] . The rfkill utility provides an easy rfkill interface manipulation [3]. Great, Booting to this kernel[0] makes this issue gone; wlan0 and LED is automatically up/on, and KNetworkManager works as expected.
