It would be handy if the Live CD could double as a recovery/diagnostic CD, so
that if you suspect your hardware is dying you could boot off the Live CD and
attempt to backup the data and diagnose the hardware.

At a minimum, this would entail adding rsync (for network backups) and
smartmontools (ATA disk testing) to the Live CD.
