[Bug 955096] New: Can't shutdown my laptop with kernel 4.3
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=955096 Bug ID: 955096 Summary: Can't shutdown my laptop with kernel 4.3 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: 2015* Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: antoine.belvire@laposte.net QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 655940 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=655940&action=edit Shutdown log I can't shutdown my laptop properly with openSUSE Tumbleweed (currently 20151113). I think it's related to my encrypted /home partition (luks + xfs) and to kernel 4.3, because it shutdowns fine with kernel 4.2.4. I get these timeout messages in the journal: nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-dm\x2d0.device: Job dev-dm\x2d0.device/stop timed out. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: Timed out stoppping /dev/dm-0. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-dm\x2d0.device: Job dev-dm\x2d0.device/stop failed with result 'timeout'. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2duuid\x2dCRYPT\x2dLUKS1\x2dc73377b81bde4ef3b447151befb286da\x2dcr_home.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2duuid\x2dCRYPT\x2dLUKS1\x2dc73377b81bde4ef3b447151befb286da\x2dcr_home.device/stop timed out. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: Timed out stoppping /dev/disk/by-id/dm-uuid-CRYPT-LUKS1-c73377b81bde4ef3b447151befb286da-cr_home. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2duuid\x2dCRYPT\x2dLUKS1\x2dc73377b81bde4ef3b447151befb286da\x2dcr_home.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2duuid\x2dCRYPT\x2dLUKS1\x2dc73377b81bde4ef3b447151befb286da\x2dcr_home.device/stop failed with result 'timeout'. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2duuid-647e3a00\x2d85f2\x2d4daf\x2da527\x2d0dcb18a5e5d8.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2duuid-647e3a00\x2d85f2\x2d4daf\x2da527\x2d0dcb18a5e5d8.device/stop timed out. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: Timed out stoppping /dev/disk/by-uuid/647e3a00-85f2-4daf-a527-0dcb18a5e5d8. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2duuid-647e3a00\x2d85f2\x2d4daf\x2da527\x2d0dcb18a5e5d8.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2duuid-647e3a00\x2d85f2\x2d4daf\x2da527\x2d0dcb18a5e5d8.device/stop failed with result 'timeout'. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: sys-devices-virtual-block-dm\x2d0.device: Job sys-devices-virtual-block-dm\x2d0.device/stop timed out. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: Timed out stoppping /sys/devices/virtual/block/dm-0. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: sys-devices-virtual-block-dm\x2d0.device: Job sys-devices-virtual-block-dm\x2d0.device/stop failed with result 'timeout'. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2did-raid\x2dcr_home.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2did-raid\x2dcr_home.device/stop timed out. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: Timed out stoppping /dev/disk/by-id/raid-cr_home. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2did-raid\x2dcr_home.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2did-raid\x2dcr_home.device/stop failed with result 'timeout'. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2dname\x2dcr_home.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2dname\x2dcr_home.device/stop timed out. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: Timed out stoppping /dev/disk/by-id/dm-name-cr_home. nov. 14 12:09:08 antoine-laptop.lan systemd[1]: dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2dname\x2dcr_home.device: Job dev-disk-by\x2did-dm\x2dname\x2dcr_home.device/stop failed with result 'timeout'. Looks like so... But the log attached doesn't contain the timeout messages you pasted, so it's hard to judge.
Sorry, I don't understand… What I pasted is extracted from the shutdown.log attached. I can see the timeout messages there, beginning at line 364. ?
To simply a bit, could you try to boot in the single user mode and shutdown for confirming that the problem is still present?
I will try that. For now, I've juste noticed that if I log out before shutdown, it shutdowns properly. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

?
Oh, yes, sorry somehow overlooked.

This is interesting. So some remaining process might block unmounting? Can you trigger alt-sysrq-t to get the current tasks while hanging? You may need to enable magic sysrq beforehand like sysctl kernel.sysrq=1 or modify /etc/sysctl.d/* for permanent change. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you try radeon-quickfix-kmp in OBS home:tiwai:bnc955096 repo with 4.4.x kernel? It contains the backports from 4.5-rc regarding radeon driver. It doesn't contain backports for drm core, so something might be still missing, though.
These backports fix the issue on both 4.4.2 from Factory 4.4.3 from kernel:stable! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
