[Bug 430401] New: openjdk doesn't work with common Danish home bank
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=430401 Summary: openjdk doesn't work with common Danish home bank Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Java AssignedTo: bnc-team-java@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: martin.schlander@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- openjdk will not load the java applet for home bank login. This banking system is used by most Danish people as it's shared between many different banks. I'm testing on a 32-bit 11.1 beta1 installation with firefox and the openjdk1.6 as installed per default. To reproduce go here: https://web40.prod.bec.dk/inet/servlet/MenuInit?Vis=/kontooplysninger/servle... For "brugernummer" enter: 54761578041 Click the "Jeg har anvent webbank før" radiobutton Then click "Næste" on the bottom right to watch the login applet fail to load. I assume the problem is due to encryption or some other security features. I wonder which versions of Sun Java are planned to be available for 11.1, since currently no factory non-oss repo seems to be available anywhere. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We will still provide a latest available Sun JVM. The non-oss repo will be available after release of 11.1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Java and its plugin are very important for various on-line services: banks, school services, tax payment in many countries. The decision of switching to openJDK as default is, I think, done in a hurry to push an open package instead than the more tested SUN JVM, which is the platform against which the applets cited above were developed and tested. This said, I think there are enough good reasons to postpone the adoption of openJDK as default to the next release, reconsidering this decision. Please make the packages available _before_ release, so people interested in them will be able to test if they work.
They're in Java:openjdk6:Factory repository (currently it contains an openjdk b12).
Java and its plugin are very important for various on-line services: banks, school services, tax payment in many countries.
Yes and we have a sun plugin too as a part of non-oss repository.
The decision of switching to openJDK as default is, I think, done in a hurry to push an open package instead than the more tested SUN JVM
No, the decision was based on fact, that openjdk is able to build all of Java packages in SUSE. But if you want to open a discussion about default JVM in SUSE, please send a post to opensuse ML, which is a better place than bugzilla. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I know the plugin will be in the non-OSS repository, but the default installation will require manual intervention. About the discussion on the ML, I think the discussion should have been started by who decided to make this change, asking the community, which is the _real_ user of openSUSE. So opening it now that things are decided seems pointless to me. Unfortunately you can't try this without the keyfile and my password :-( 2) In Opera I can now log into my netbank (woohoo!!) I have some slightly annoying problems there with getting text input fields to have focus, and of course I can't test all functionality right now, since I don't have any payments to make currently and such, but it's looking good. 3) KDE4 Konq seems to choke on the certificates, but this is not surprising as kde3 konq did the same thing, even with Sun Java. So in conclusion, the fixed cacert file greatly improves the situation for me, but far from solving all problems. On 11.1 I'll surely prefer Opera+openjdk over Firefox+Sun Java - atleast if no unexpected problems appear - and if I can also get it to work with 64-bit opera+openjdk - will test on my 64-bit workstation later, maybe on b3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's probably an Opera issue though, since 64-bit Opera doesn't work with 64-bit Sun Java either - even though Opera - like Konq - uses the jre directly without relying on a browser plugin. What kind of error was shown? Can you run the firefox from console and paste the output from console? BTW: The fixed package java-1_6_0-openjdk was submitted into Factory and Java:openjdk6:Factory. I also attached a screenshot of the error message that the bank throws. "Fejlmeddelelse" translates to "Error message" and "Den" translates to "The" - so the error is absolutely useless. The error occurs right after entering password and path to keyfile. Looking at the terminal output it would appear that the complete error message should have been "Den ønskede funktion er ikke tilgængelig i øjeblikket. Many thanks for your testing of openjdk on openSUSE. I was unable to find something usefull in the output above :-(. You can only try the java-1_6_0-openjdk from Java:openjdk6:Factory, which contains a newest version of openjdk and icedtea with a LiveConnect support enabled by default. But note that currently available packages (java-1_6_0-openjdk-1.3_b12-18.1) does not have a signed applet support as I backported the fix few hours ago and the new openjdk is still not completely rebuilded. The new IcedTea plugin (please check the link in browser-plugins/ directory) readlink -f /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/libjavaplugin.so /usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.3_b12/jre/lib/amd64/IcedTeaPlugin.so has a debug variable ICEDTEAPLUGIN_DEBUG, so running ICEDTEAPLUGIN_DEBUG=true firefox will produce a more verbose output. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The bad news is that there's no need to provide debuginfo - the good news is that this "Just Works" with Firefox and my home bank - I even transferred some money and some other things. Of course, never being satisfied, I rushed to my 11.0 x86_64 system, installed 64-bit Firefox 3.0.3 (usually use x86 firefox because of the damn Sun plugin) and the openjdk factory packages for 11.0 - this combination doesn't work - Firefox crashes with a segfault, when trying to login (right after entering password, pointing to keyfile, and clicking "Next") I don't know if it's expected to work on x86_64, at least openjdk now equals Sun Java functionality for me - that is home bank working with x86 openjdk and firefox. Here's the last part of the HUMONGOUS icedtea debug output, before the crash on 11.0/x86_64 - don't know if it's useful at all. I'll be installing 11.1 x86_64 prolly at rc1 or maybe beta4, and of course openjdk will be the first thing I test (getting rid of a dependcance on both non-free sun java and 32-bit firefox at once would be too great for words). I don't know if it's expected to work on x86_64,
Yes, the openjdk is expected to be fully functional on x86_64. I don't have an idea what is wrong on x86_64 system. Can you install a debuginfo package of Mozilla Firefox and fill a new bug about a Firefox crash?
at least openjdk now equals Sun Java functionality for me - that is home bank working with x86 openjdk and firefox.
Sounds great :-) But I'm afraid, that without functional x86_64 version this bug must be opened. I'll only decrease a Severity. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Even though I can verify my java installation on java.com. Then tried 11.1rc1+FF3.0.6+Sun Java 1.6u12 (didn't install 11.1 final on my x86_64 machine). This works. I guess you can close the bug, but I'd sure prefer having it working with openjdk as long as Sun Java still has non-free components - and openjdk is the default Java... :-/ Is it planned to release Sun Java 1.6u12 as an update for 11.0 too btw? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Same problem as with 64-bit mentioned above - while java in general works according to java.com, one of my home banks just does nothing when claiming to try to load the applet, the other one claims I'm missing a plugin... Regressions hurt twice as much as things that never worked... :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But there will be still a JavaFX, which will be probably never opensourced [2] Yes, the update of Sun Java will be available on all supported products - from 10.3 to 11.1. And another good thing is that I work on b14 update for 11.1 and 11.0 too. @all: thanks for testing [1] http://blogs.sun.com/darcy/entry/openjdk_and_the_new_plugin [2] http://www.javaworld.com/community/node/687 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It should be possible to build an old one, but I'm not sure why.
