[Bug 283565] New: pam_tally counters not incrementing for KDM login failures in SuSE 10.1
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=283565 Summary: pam_tally counters not incrementing for KDM login failures in SuSE 10.1 Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rgiles@arlut.utexas.edu QAContact: kde-maintainers@suse.de CC: rgiles@arlut.utexas.edu KDM only increments the pam_tally failed attempt counter once for a user when a bad password is entered. The counter stays the same for successive bad password attempts. GDM, XDM and WDM with the same configuration all interact correctly with pam_tally (along with other login methods, like SSH). /etc/pam.d/common-auth: ----------------------- auth required pam_env.so auth required pam_unix.so auth required pam_tally.so deny=5 no_reset unlock_time=1800 /etc/pamd./common-account: -------------------------- account required pam_unix2.so account required pam_tally.so I'm seeing a message along the lines of "pam_setcred(DELETE_CRED) failed ... permission denied" upon successive login failures while using KDM as my display manager. The easy fix is to simply use a different display manager, but I figured I'd report it as a bug in case y'all weren't aware. I can confirm that this KDM<->pam_tally interaction problem does NOT exist on SuSE 9.0, SuSE 9.3 or openSUSE 10.2. Seems to be 10.1-specific? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
