https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406315 Summary: After kernel upgrade from 2.6.22-17.01 to 2.6.22-18.02 sound broken Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jcarricksmith@gmail.com QAContact: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Customer The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 with a 82801G (ICH7 Family) chip which worked with the earlier kernel using the snd_hda_intel driver. I also had the Linuxant HSFmodem driver installed at the time of the upgrade. I have deleted the HSFmodel driver and replaced it with the one for the new kernel with no effect. If I enter modprobe snd-hda-intel the response is:- FATAL: Error inserting snd_hda_intel (/lib/modules/2.6.22.18-0.2-default/weak-updates/snd-hda-intel.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) The entries in dmesg are:- snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_bus_new snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_build_pcms snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_codec_new snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_queue_unsol_event snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_calc_stream_format snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_suspend snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_codec_remove_notify_all snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_resume snd_hda_intel: Unknown symbol snd_hda_build_controls (full output attached in dmesg.log) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Figure out which package contains that file via rpm -qf /lib/modules.2.6.22.18-0.2-default/weak-updates/snd-hda-intel.ko -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thank you for your help. I will sort out the hsf modem driver sometime as it is not mandatory for me at present. Best wishes.
