From the logs in comment #5:
The installation detects that there is generic boot code in the MBR: ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2007-09-27 15:53:07 <1> linux(3651) [YCP] bootloader/routines/lilolike.ycp:223 MBR examining script returned $[ "exit":0, "stderr":"", "stdout":"Generic MBR\n" ] ------------------------------------------------------------------ So it decides not to rewrite the MBR, and installs GRUB's stage1 into the partition where "/boot" resides: ------------------------------------------------------------------ grub> setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0,1) (hd0,1) Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0,1)"... failed (this is not fatal) Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0,1)"... failed (this is not fatal) Running "install --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0,1) /boot/grub/stage2 p /boot/grub/menu.lst "... succeeded Done. grub> quit ------------------------------------------------------------------ This partition is also activated: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Partition: 2 /dev/sda2 20972857 8 2 262 2611 83 primary boot ------------------------------------------------------------------ So far this looks fine. Maybe the boot code in the MBR just looks valid but fails for some reason. Could you please attach a dump of the MBR: dd if=/dev/sda of=/tmp/MBR_dump count=1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
