[Bug 244532] New: Xwindows not working/garbled / will not load
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244532 Summary: Xwindows not working/garbled / will not load Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lorne@myrealmail.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I have a ViewSonic VX2025WM 20" LCD monitor. The first install, I accepted the default configuration. On boot, Xwindows was garbled. I reinstalled and have tried 15 different window sizes including the recommended 1680x1050 in the installation setup screen. It is always garbled. I noticed that it is trying to load in 4/3 and not 16/10 aspect ration like it should. I suspect this may be the issue. I have been away from the technical aspect of this for some time now and forget how to modify the xorg.conf file or what ever it is. I will leave it for now to see if others have ideas. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

At least the correct resolution should be written first in "Modes" fields (SubSection "Display", Section "Screen") of your xorg.conf. "Device" section should contain the correct driver for your gfxcard (but you can use generic driver "vesa") and also your "Modeline"s should be correct. If you have i850-like gfxcard you also have to install 855resolution (or 915 resolution). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I notice that the monitor is not in the Viewsonic selection, but in a VSC or something. Not sure if that is applicable or not. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244532 ------- Comment #6 from lorne@myrealmail.net 2007-02-15 09:31 MST ------- Created an attachment (id=119454) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=119454&action=view) xorg.0.log Actually that file requested is in the attached file, but I will send it again. I have also detected that up reboot, it now says the installation failed. It is trying to go to the opensuse server but can not because the scrips are NOT loading up ifconfig! So it fails. I went to a second window and did an ifup eth0 and now it works, so that is another minor detail that got missed apparently. This is a pre-release version of the X server from The X.Org Foundation. It is not supported in any way. Bugs may be filed in the bugzilla at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/. Select the "xorg" product for bugs you find in this release. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244532 ------- Comment #10 from lorne@myrealmail.net 2007-02-15 11:09 MST ------- I did not change anything, willfully. The system is apparently looking to fix itself. When it booted this morning, it complained that the installation did not go properly. It then tried to get updates which would not work because the scripts do not bring up eth0. I manually did ifup eth0. It downloaded some things and is now hung at trying to configure a joystick. ??? I have no joystick. I am happy to to start it from scratch and give you what you want. Bottom line is, the system does not install properly, I can not use X at all and that seems very serious.
