[Bug 219919] New: kmilo is not installed by default and not in the correct package
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219919 Summary: kmilo is not installed by default and not in the correct package Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: sven.burmeister@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de If you search in yast for kmilo (enable description), it will be found in kdeutils3. If you have a look at the filelist of that package, kmilo is not part of it. Instead it apparently was moved to kdeutils3-laptop, as if kmilo would only handle laptop-keyboards and keys and desktops not being able to use multimedi-keyboards with volume and other special keys. kmilo whould be part of kdeutils3 and be installed by default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If not installed KDE does not start kmix when the volume-keys are used, neither does it change the volume or mute/unmute and provide an OSD. Why should only laptops need to use volume-keys with kmix? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219919 ------- Comment #3 from dmueller@novell.com 2006-11-15 13:25 MST ------- kmix is started by default in KDE sessions, and it can handle those global shortcuts by itself. thats how it is supposed to work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219919 ------- Comment #4 from sven.burmeister@gmx.net 2006-11-15 13:41 MST ------- Kmix was not started after my fresh install of beta2. The user should not have to start it, that's why there is kmilo. I tested my Volume key without kmilo running, nothing happens, with kmilo running, it works. I think that before kmilo one could assign keys to kmix manually, yet why should one have to do that just to save some kb, i.e. not install kmilo by default? Especially since desktop users usually have to worry less about harddisk-space than laptop users. Or to ask the other way around, what harm does it do to install kmilo by default? Pros: - kmix started automatically - volume-keys handled automatically (even for Logitech keyboards) no need to manually assign keys to kmix - On screen display, i.e. visual feedback when changing volume un/mute Cons: - uses some kbs Did I forget something? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
