[Bug 276473] New: Evolution Junk Filter broken
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276473 Summary: Evolution Junk Filter broken Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 4 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Evolution AssignedTo: bnc-team-evolution@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: casualprogrammer@yahoo.com QAContact: lakhil@novell.com After a "clean" install of openSuSE 10.3 alpha4 from DVD Evolution sends all incoming mail to the Junk folder. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276473 ------- Comment #1 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-05-26 01:33 MST ------- Now this is really a show stopper, if I can supply any helpful information, let me know. Especially nice: After recovering "junked" email in bulk ( select all/Not Junk ) it takes forever for evolution to "learn" not junk, thus blocking any reasonable activity. Although learning took place, messages from same source and comparable content are still filtered out as junk. Evolution says its 2.10.1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Is this happening with Exchange connector? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In earlier versions of Evolution the junk filter seemed to work reasonably well. As far as I found out so far, junk is filtered by SpamAssassin, yet there is no indication in Evolution Help to that end, nor how (if at all) it might be configured. Btw. an Evolution Documentation package would be appreciated, especially on topics like macro programming or attaching "home made" plugins. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I tested this scenario on the top of OpenSuse10.3 Aplha3plus with latest evolution rpms means i downloaded rpms from SUSE factory and installed these rpms in my machine. Here is the details of RPMS 1)evolution-2.10.1-11.i586.rpm 2)evolution-data-server-1.10.1-20.i586.rpm 3)evolution-exchange-2.10.1-19.i586.rpm I tried with existing user and new user also.In existing user,i tried after deleting .evolution folder also. I marked one email id as junk in both back ends, sent mail from user which was marked as junk and i checked that mail on receiving side,it was showing mail still in inbox. It was not able to filter mail as junk. I restarted evolution and again tested but still mail was in Inbox only. So for me junk mechanism is not working at all. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Selecting all, marking as unread, marking as "Not Junk". Takes 1h25m to "learn" not junk. Today received 8 new messages, all went into Junk. All 8 were from senders and had content comparable to the already "learned" 1051 messages. Package revisions are same as message #6 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276473 ------- Comment #8 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-06-01 04:47 MST ------- Addenda: established another account casualprogrammer@gmail.com, this now behaves as described in comment #6, i.e. the opposite failure, all messages to inbox, even if "learned" as junk before. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Could you please provide more information so that i can come to a conclusion or i can reproduce it here. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276473 casualprogrammer@yahoo.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW Info Provider|casualprogrammer@yahoo.com | ------- Comment #10 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-06-05 00:03 MST ------- "Paste details of x-session here." ??? #7 and #8 are indeed contradictory, all I can guess is, that the behaviour is dependent on the account type. casualprogrammer@yahoo.com makes use of a program called ypopsemail, which acts as a proxy pop/smtp server and talks to yahoo via web interface, while casualprogrammer@gmail.com is connecting to the pop/smtp services of googlemail directly. They are also using ssl encryption. Alas I don't know anything about spamassassin, which is obviously used by evolution. It is not even documented in Evolution. Glad to provide more information if you point me to the right places. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276473 ------- Comment #11 from psankar@novell.com 2007-06-05 00:18 MST ------- Akhil: I don't understand why you need x-session logs. Evolution does not do anything on its own to filter spam. With 2.10 onwards, you can choose among Bogofilter and SpamAssasin to filter spam. Pre 2.10, you have to use only SA. And there were problems with SA not able to learn non-junk. What version of Evolution do you have ? Are you able to train Ham (non-spam) messages ? You need to do that if you are using SA. IIRC, Bogo works out-of-box. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276473 ------- Comment #12 from casualprogrammer@yahoo.com 2007-06-05 01:18 MST ------- Sankar: I have Evolution 2.10.1 ( from the "about" box ). What do you mean by "Are you able to train Ham (non-spam) messages ?" There are buttons for "Junk" and "Not Junk" in the menu bar of Evolution. In "Edit/Plugins" there is a "Spamassassin junk plugin" listed and checked. Otherwise there seems to be no information whatsoever in Evolution, help is nonexistent and quick reference only lists keyboard shortcuts. I have tried to uninstall spamassassin and install bogo, but spamassassin is tied to Evolution by dependencies. If I unlock them, I can uninstall it, but installing bogo doesn't achieve anything ( at least not discernible by me ) Just redid it while editig this: uninstall spamassassin, install bogo, close Evolution, start Evolution "Junk" and "Not Junk" buttons still there, Edit/Plugins still shows Spamassassin junk plugin and its still checked. Am I missing something here ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
