[Bug 273211] New: emacs segfaults
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273211 Summary: emacs segfaults Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Development AssignedTo: schwab@novell.com ReportedBy: fruell@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Emacs irregular crashes when killing a buffer. This sometimes happend to me on openSUSE 10.3 alpha 2, but then I thought it's my messy setup. Just now it happend with a fresh install of 10.3 Alpha3plus, with nothing but the default setup. This time I started emacs on a tty, run font-lock-mode, visit-tags-table, tags-apropos, jumped to a function, killed the buffer and got a Fatal error (11) Segmentation fault. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It happend as the root user, the account you are locked into. Sadly I can't find a debuginfo package for this version of emacs. I installed -273, now there's an emacs -276. Should I update emacs? And for the coredump, do you mean setting it via ulimit? You can change this install (the one you are locked into) as you like to. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273211 ------- Comment #18 from werner@novell.com 2007-05-10 10:23 MST ------- Yea `ulimit -c unlimited' provides a core dump. If the -276 version works we see a libc/gcc/ld problem because there was no change in emacs. Nevertheless, I'd like to know why I can not reproduce this behaviour. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273211 ------- Comment #19 from fruell@novell.com 2007-05-10 10:50 MST ------- rpm -i /mounts/dist/factory/FACTORY-D/inst-source-debug-suse-i586/emacs-debugindo-21.3-275.i586.rpm fails. I could try to force it, or install /mounts/dist/factory/FACTORY/inst-source/suse/i586/emacs-* It just happens occasional, I wasn't able to reproduce it, too. I know this is very few info, but since it's the editor and thus one of the most important packages, I wanted to report it anyway. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273211 ------- Comment #21 from fruell@novell.com 2007-05-14 11:14 MST ------- Hallo Werner, I was able to reproduce it. echo foobar > test emacs -nw -q test Now kill the line (C-k). And right after that kill the buffer(C-x k). emacs segfaults. Happens with Suse 10.3 alpha 2, as well as with 10.3 alpha3 plus. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
