[Bug 766300] New: fail to install OpenSuSE on iscsi disk
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=766300 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=766300#c0 Summary: fail to install OpenSuSE on iscsi disk Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: hboterman@free.fr QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 Hi, This problem is not new but I take some time to discribe it now. I want to use diskless stations at home so I use one OpenSuSE server to provide iscsi disks for all other machines. On client machine I use ipxe to boot over iscsi. This is what I have to do to install OpenSuSE on them: -Boot on OpenSuSE 12.2 CDROM -add withiscsi=1 kernel option -choose the right network interface (eth0/wlan0), and use DHCP -on iscsi config screen, select and connect the right iscsi target and choose "onboot" option. -choose grub instead of grub2. (I have to tweak a little bit more the bootloader configuration if a harddrive exists on the machine because during install process, my iscsi disk is sdb and at boot time iscsi disk is sda). -disable SuSEfirewall because iscsi-target port is filtered. Why not add this tcp port is case of using withiscsi=1 switch ? -wait the end of install process. kexec boot fail to start the new system, it would be nice to reboot the machine in case of withiscsi=1 switch ? -/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 have to be created (doesn't exist on the end of install process since OS12.2!?) with bootproto=dhcp, usercontrol=no and startmode=nfsroot before first boot (*). -boot.iscsid-early and iscsid have to be disabled before first boot (*) because when they start, iscsi disk become unreachable and all read/write fail and system crash! (*) to do this modification before first boot, I mount the disk-image on the server and do a chroot on the filesystem to edit files or use systemctl or chkconfig to disable the two services. After this, my system is up and fine. The two services boot.iscsid-early and iscsid are left disabled. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: When withiscsi switch is used: -disable SuSEfirewall (or open iscsi-target=3260 tcp port) -add startmode=nfsroot and usercontrol=no in the network interface file (netif choosed during install time) to prevent NetworkManager from switch it off/on for example. -disabled or modifiy boot.iscsid-early and iscsid services to not disturb existing iscsi connections booting. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Expected Results: When withiscsi switch is used: -disable SuSEfirewall (or open iscsi-target=3260 tcp port)
This is part of yast2-firewall proposal, I guess. Lukas?
-add startmode=nfsroot and usercontrol=no in the network interface file (netif choosed during install time) to prevent NetworkManager from switch it off/on for example.
This should be done by network module. Michal?
-disabled or modifiy boot.iscsid-early and iscsid services to not disturb existing iscsi connections booting.
I'm not sure about this. Perhaps it should be done by that 'iscsi config screen' - is that Arvin's? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The patch from 11.4 applies as well:
open-iscsi-fix-sysfs-get-value-null
Hans-Peter: I believe you are correct. This patch, from openSUSE 11.4, references bnc#656119, and that bug does indeed cause this problem, as you mentioned in comment #9. I have build a patched openSUSE 12.2 version using the build service. Can somebody test the resulting RPM? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
