The only fix, sometimes, is to kill X and let it restart. The problem appears to be a corrupt MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE (at least, that is what .xsession-errors contains). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's not as bad as it was, but it happened to me *three times* today. However, it's not just with suspend/resume, it's also happens when I bring my VPN up or down (but - again - not every time - not even most of the time). The more I work with this, the more I'm fairly certain it happens under two scenarios: 1. from 'su -' run 'yast2 whatever' (instead of using kdesu) 2. I've brought my vpn up or down recently (using the KDE networkmanager interface to my vpn). EVERY time I notice a new entry in Xauthority with my (short) hostname as returned by DNS, but *not* the name of the box at boot or when X starts. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Have you reported the issue upstream? With the backtrace you posted in the first comment. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=806629 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=806629#c8 --- Comment #8 from Jon Nelson <jnelson-suse@jamponi.net> 2013-07-05 18:29:52 UTC --- I've not reported it upstream. The crash is a bit of a red-herring insofar as the crash is a *result* of a Xauthority file with multiple (good) entries and one (or more) bad entries. IMO, one or more bad entries should not be sufficient to cause X breakage, but that is an entirely separate issue. The core issue is this, I believe: using the VPN (via network manager - see the redhat bug I reference), changing the network, etc.. and/or using yast2 or other kde bits improperly (via su instead of via kdesu) is sufficient to *break* the entire X session by writing out bad (or invalid for this user!) Xauthority entries. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
