How to reproduce : 1) In /etc/nsswitch.conf * change the first lines like this : |passwd: compat ldap |shadow: compat ldap |group: compat ldap 2) Install nss_ldap-253-14 x86-64 module from YaST 3) do not change the defaults ldap files 4) restart Extract of /var/log/boot.msg (at run level 5): |... | Starting HAL demon done | Loading CPUFreq modules done | dbus-demon: ldap-nss.c:1315: do_init: Assertion 'cfg->ldc_uris[__sessions.ls_current_uri] != ((void*)0)' failed. |... Note 1: This error may be due to the fact than i have not finish yet my ldapd configuration. But this could be a good thing thant the fail of the nss_ldap module do block the whole d-bus demon. Note2: I have tested the 32bit version instead of the 64bit version and there is no d-bus crash in this case. What exactly do you mean wiht "32bit version"? Did you install the package nss_ldap-32bit on your x86_64 openSUSE Installation or did you re-install the complete machine with a 32bit openSUSE?

Yes sorry it's a reboot.
- At the boot time level 5 D-bus crash (see log extract)
- It's not possible to start it latter

- My machine is an x86_64 openSUSE Installation and i have install the
nss_ldap-32bit package.
Note : i see than there is a 253-19 new version package availlable from
Repositories i will test again the packages latter this day.

Ok, then it's no wonder that it doesn't crash anymore. nss_ldap-32bit is only
used by 32bit binaries. The "-32bit" packages are in general only there to make
32bit binaries work. E.g. older SUSE x86_64 version shipped with a 32bit
firefox (which would need nss_ldap-32bit to resolve LDAP users).
The dbus on x86_64 is of course a 64bit binary and would use the "normal"
nss_ldap package.

It will most probably fail as well. But I think I was able to reproduce your
problem now. But only if I remove the host/uri lines from the configuration in
/etc/ldap.conf. You said above that you didn't touch those files. Is that
really true? Could you please attach you /etc/ldap.conf?

Ok Ralph, i have made more tests with the new version nss_ldap-253-19
* new package alone or with nss_ldap-32bit-253-19
You where true it's fail as well and nss_ldap-32bit-253-19 did not "solve" the
problem. The problem is "solved" when the package is uninstaled :-/

Well sorry your right, i have forget this i have changed the ldap.conf file. So
:
* tested with the two attached ldap.conf. It's fail both when URI & HOST are
declared or not.
* I thinks than, maybe this is due to the fact than i did not have finish the
install of my Ldap "main" datas. For now there is nearly nothing except the
domain + manager entries.
I send you too the actual ldap database content if it can help you.
In short :
-> it crash with nss_ldap-253-19 64-bit version alone or not
-> it crash with the two attached ldap.conf files
-> it crash with the ldap database attached
If you need more info/test just ask me il will be glad to do them.
Update :... Hu-Ho i see something ... one more test to do just now ...

I have just seen than my ldap.conf was owned by root:root probably because of me (copy-paste is my other name). Just changed now the owner to root:ldap like the other openldap conf files. Just one precision, i have see this morning then have made one mistake. I have send you /etc/opeldap/ldap.conf files not the /etc/ldap.conf one.
