The string TFTP does not occur in ftp-server.es.po. Maybe, it gets pulled in from somewhere else. Please describe more detailed, how we can repoduce the problem and take a screen shot, if possible. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273605 ------- Comment #6 from ke@novell.com 2007-05-11 07:01 MST ------- @ comment #4: At least, we would also have to add: "(vsftpd or pure-ftpd)" - so I'd better let the translator check this message. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273605 aaguilar@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |aaguilar@novell.com ------- Comment #8 from aaguilar@novell.com 2007-05-11 08:06 MST ------- As there are too many things mention here, I will try to paraphrase and give my answer: 1.# /usr/share/applications/YaST2/firewall.desktop msgid "GenericName(firewall.desktop): Configure a firewall" msgstr "Configuración del cortafuegos para usuarios avanzados" Arturo's answer: if the source really say 'Configure a firewall' then, yes, the text '...para usuarios avanzados' (for advanced users) is superflous. It should be changed as Karl mentioned. 2. #: /usr/share/applications/fontforge.desktop msgid GenericName(fontforge.desktop): Font Editor" msgstr "Editor de fuentes" Arturo's answer: Editor de fuentes DOES NOT mean 'Editor of the fountains' but rather 'Font Editor' ... sometimes also called 'Editor de tipografía' but maybe the translation has already been used as such and it was kept. So please DO NOT CHANGE. 3. #: /usr/share/applications/glchess.desktop msgid "GenericName(glchess.desktop): 3D Chess Game" msgstr "Juego de ajedrez" Arturo's answer: Arturo's answer: I agree, please add the '3D' although in Spanish 3D is not used as such but rather spelled out as 'tercer / tercera dimensión' which will make the string too long. So if you leave it out, it won't cause a major issue. If you want to add it, you can say: "Juego de ajedrez en 3D" 4. #: /usr/share/applications/gnucash.desktop msgid "GenericName(gnucash.desktop): Finance Management" msgstr "Gestor de finanzas GnuCash" Arturo's answer: If 'GnuCash' is not mentioned in the English version. Then, it has to be taken out. The translation might come from legacy strings rather from a new translation... maybe in the past it did say that in English. 5. #: /usr/share/applications/gthumb.desktop msgid "GenericName(gthumb.desktop): Image Viewer" msgstr "Visor de imágenes" #: /usr/share/applications/gimp-dcraw.desktop msgid "GenericName(gimp-dcraw.desktop): Image Editor" msgstr "Editor de imagen" Arturo's answer: I agree that there is a plural / singular discrepancy. Please, put all instances in plural. 6. # /usr/share/applications/YaST2/heartbeat.desktop #: /usr/share/applications/YaST2/heartbeat.desktop msgid "GenericName(heartbeat.desktop): Configure high availability (heartbeat)" msgstr "Configurar la disponibilidad alta (subejecución)" Arturo's answer: Well, 'heartbeat' is not a SUSE nor Linux exclusive term. It has been used for a long time in the networking industry. As such it has always been localized in most instances as 'subejecución' so the translation is not wrong. Sometimes when the software is exclusively used by network administrators and very technical people, the term is left in English... but if it appears in an 'end-user' interface, then, it has to be localized. Making this differentiation in an out-of-context string might be difficult for the translator though. 7. # /usr/share/applications/YaST2/host.desktop #: /usr/share/applications/YaST2/host.desktop msgid "GenericName(host.desktop): Assign hostnames and aliases to IP addresses" msgstr "Configurar nombres de ordenador" Arturo's answer: I agree this is not only an incomplete translation but also a WRONG one. The translation 'ordenador' (for the English term 'computer')SHOULD never be used in Novell's products as this terms is only used in SPAIN and never in Latin America. So at Novell we prefer to use: sistema, PC, or equipo rather than the translations used in Spain and Latin America. Please, check our online terminology management system for further information. So in this instance translate it as: "Asignar alias y nombre de host a las direcciones IP" 8. #: /usr/share/applications/iscan.desktop msgid "GenericName(iscan.desktop): Epson Scan Program" msgstr "Programa de exploración de Epson" Arturo's answer: The translation is correct. Scan/ning is translated as 'explorar/ción' when you talk about the actual physical 'scanner' the translation is 'escáner' a transliteration rather than a translation.. but for the ver or action the other forms are properly used. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273605 ------- Comment #9 from judas_iscariote@shorewall.net 2007-05-17 00:03 MST ------- (In reply to comment #8)
As there are too many things mention here, I will try to paraphrase and give my
arturo: there are many other usability issues in the translation of yast modules, f.e yast-network uses (or used, not sure atm) some quite interesting and uncommon translations for some words.. I think I'll check the other problems and submit a different bug report for that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
