[Bug 167521] nfs install stops -- DHCP fails on RTL 8139/Compaq R3000; tg3 Dell D600

It's not a DHCP problem. After setting up a static address (confirmed with ifconfig), it doesn't handle ping, traceroute, or http requests either. Every request causes ARP to ask: who has 192.168.1.1 (the router - default gateway), tell 192.168.1.100 (static workstation ip). All ARP requests fail to resolve the ip<->mac identities. I downloaded RealTek's latest driver (r1000) and insmod-ed it, upgraded the router firmware, tried ethtool to make the card do 10M and 1/2 duplex, re-configured eth0 with YAST, but nothing works. I said above that I could get to the router with a static address, but that doesn't work now, either. My next step is to hook the box directly to the DSL modem to rule out the router. If I continue to have problems I'll open a new bug report. It shouldn't be part of this one.
