[Bug 457055] New: Cannot acces PTP camera
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457055 User tvrtko@ursulin.net added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457055#c1 Summary: Cannot acces PTP camera Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Hotplug AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tvrtko@ursulin.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User This is interesting in a way that I am not sure which component is to blame. I have a workflow in which I plug in a digital camera configured in PTP mode, wait for the "hotplug" dialog to appear from which I choose "Digikam detect and download" (this is all under KDE3), and then proceed with downloading pictures. It worked flawlessly in v11 and today I just tried it for the first time in 11.1 RC1. Digikam shows an error while trying to connect to the camera. Then I installed gphoto2 command line and tried to fiddle with that. At first it also didn't work but after several attempts it managed to produce a file listing. This is what kernel sees when I connect my camera: usb 1-10: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10 usb 1-10: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usb 1-10: New USB device found, idVendor=04b0, idProduct=0414 usb 1-10: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 1-10: Product: NIKON DSC D40 usb 1-10: Manufacturer: NIKON usb 1-10: SerialNumber: 7457706 I will attach the gphoto2 terminal session from first try to success because it is pretty large. You will see some libusb permission complaints. Those may be a separate problem, because I don't think they are relevant here since gphoto2 run as root has the same connectivity issues. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I also see 1 byte missing in some datadumps. just for the off chance, please review if cable is good and batteries are loaded good. Definitely also needs better error handling in libgphoto2 too -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So its likely inefficient error handling. I will also check if there is the original error causing the later problems,. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457055 User tvrtko@ursulin.net added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457055#c11 --- Comment #11 from Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko@ursulin.net> 2009-01-29 14:21:20 MST --- Well this is bizarre.. I'll tell you what I did but bottom line is that it seems to work now. First I tested it on a different computer, one running Ubuntu 8.10 (can I say that here? :) and which hasn't seen a camera connection ever. And gphoto2 -L was also flaky there but in a different way. It was also a different version of gphoto than here. It would work on first invocation and subsequent gphoto2 -L would fail. Right I thought.. it is gphoto who is flaky. So I went on to prove how it worked in 11 by downloading gphoto2 package from 11 and installed it into 11.1. Had to downgrade libltdl as well and I even tried downgrading libusb but all to no avail - it still didn't work. In retrospective, my mistake was that I haven't realised I need to downgrade libgphoto2 as well. Never mind that I had a different plan. I booted from 11 live CD, setup repositories and installed gphoto2. And it worked, flawlessly. Then rebooted back into my 11.1 system to put things back to normal. Get rid of downgraded packages and re-installed correct versions. And you know what? Now it seems to work just fine. One in every ten "gphoto2 -L" invocation fails with some error about failure to lock USB device but nothing like I had before. Only theory I have is, that since my 11.1 installation came to be via upgrades from 11.1 Beta 5 and so on, something got fudged in the process. Which maybe is not so surprising since I had hibernation and HAL issues caused by upgrade as well in the past. If the theory is correct maybe a generic work item about improving upgrading is needed, or just documenting it as unreliable. Either way I think you can close this one for now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
