I do not have access to the console, but after performing a zypper dup from 11.4 to 12.1 the machine did not restart. I re-installed vmware tools without the shared folders option, deactivated it from vmware itself and now it seems to work. the commands init 0 and init 6 power off and restart the machine. Even copy/paste to/from the VM works now. I've seen lots of warnings treated as errors when compiling the vmware kernel modules.
