I have two Intel GFX based laptops and both are running just fine even with a lot slower hardware. The issue seems to be 2D mode. 3D rendering still seems to be pretty fine what also explains your observations. Just tried the game on my Intel machine and FF5b5 is running fine and Xorg around 25% max. This really is nvidia and 11.3 specific.
