Whats funny when i run only game xorg go to 100% of CPU (nvidia stay on performance level 0), and everything lag, but when i run glxgears (nvidia go to performance level 2), game work good and xorg use 50% of CPU. Please tell my why. I have two Intel GFX based laptops and both are running just fine even with a lot slower hardware. The issue seems to be 2D mode. 3D rendering still seems to be pretty fine what also explains your observations. Just tried the game on my Intel machine and FF5b5 is running fine and Xorg around 25% max. This really is nvidia and 11.3 specific. First I had was the one available in the nvidia repo (cannot remember the number). As that was awful slow I installed 256.44 (iirc) from the nvidia website but not sure if it was any better. Recently I updated to 256.53 from the repo but still no fun.
