[Bug 685245] New: amanda error in Constants.pm $PS undefined.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685245 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685245#c0 Summary: amanda error in Constants.pm $PS undefined. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lee4home@gotadsl.co.uk QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b12) Gecko/20110222 Firefox/4.0b12 amanda fails partly because of broken tar 1.25 (Bug #682678) and partly because of error in a distributed file. Note: > type ps ps is /bin/ps In SuSE 11.4, Constants.pm is at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.12.3/Amanda/Constants.pm At line 83, it had: $PS = ""; which should be changed to: $PS = "/bin/ps"; I gather from other amanda users this may be a long-standing bug. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Distribution file needs correction, as noted above. 2. Slightly different issue: To get amrestore to work, had to modify /dev/nst0: # chown amanda:amanda /dev/nst0 where I had User amanda in group amanda. Actual Results: One specific symptom: amstatus does not work: # su amanda
amstatus DailySet1 Can't exec "-eo": No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.12.3/Amanda/Process.pm line 177. -eo pid, ppid, command: No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.12.3/Amanda/Process.pm line 177.
This seems to compare with a discussion at: #552390 - amstatus: Can't exec "-eo": No such file or directory - Debian Bug report logs where it was suggested that "For some reason /bin/ps was not picked up during the configuration and so /usr/lib/amanda/perl/Amanda/Constants.pm is distributed broken". In that forum the suggested solution was: I've just change in /usr/lib/amanda/perl/Amanda/Constants.pm $PS = ""; into $PS = "/bin/ps"; and it works. Expected Results: After fixing tar, no failure message and it works! Amanda is a highly valued backup program which scales well and is capable of backing up a mixed environment (including WinXP, Vista etc etc) using Samba on a SuSE server. The inability to install a working setup was a substantial loss to me, and I have spent several weeks trying to get it all working. Amanda is probably the de facto backup program for UNIX, and this fix is trivial! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
