[Bug 448411] New: Switching to virtual console is broken
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=448411 Summary: Switching to virtual console is broken Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: hochglanz@googlemail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Since I updated from SuSE Linux 10.1 to openSUSE 11.0 I got a annoying bug. When I switch to virtual console 10 (syslog) sometimes I cannot switch back to any other console, like 7 (X.org). When I try to do so, the screen goes black and I cannot even switch back to 10 or to another virtual console. The problem is that this happes only sometimes. If it happens the only solution is to kill the X.org server from login into that computer via SSH from another host. Before I do so, I do not notice that a programm runs wild (100% CPU utilization) - maybe the X.org programm use more CPU power that usual (6-9%). If I kill the X.org server it will not happen immediately again. Therefore one can say that the error only occur after the X.org server (or the KDE session) runs for a certain time. The problem never occured in nearly 2 years with SuSE Linux 10.1 and KDE 3.5.x Here are the facts of that machine. openSUSE 11.0 (latest software patches installed) KDE 4.1 (with compositing enabled) Intel 945M graphics (i915 driver) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm already using the software repository of X.org which leads to the last versions of the X-Server.
If you're using the X11:XOrg buildservice repo it won't help to update to 11.1. It's the same sources for X.Org.
Can anybody say which version of the intel driver I'm using: rpm -qa | grep xorg list all x.org packages which have 7.4 versioning - how can I see the version of the intel driver??
You're using xf86-video-intel 2.5.0. See /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I'm afraid the only thing you can do is complain to Intel's developers. I agree that the driver has gotten worse and worse. :-( Thus I'm afraid such driver issues need to be addressed by Intel's Linux driver development team. Thus I would like to ask you to report this issue upstream on bugs.freedesktop.org according to http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html and add me to Cc (sndirsch@suse.de). You'll need to register for an account on bugs.freedesktop.org first, in case you don't have one yet. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
