[Bug 387306] New: madwifi rpm missing from PPC
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=387306 Summary: madwifi rpm missing from PPC Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Macintosh OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: hschaa@novell.com ReportedBy: larrystotler@netscape.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other The installer detects the Atheros based cards and says it is setup properly(which never detected on PPC with v10.3 and under), but the wireless does not work. Olaf said to open this be report because the madwifi package is missing in ppc. Work around: I was able to compile the driver from source. However, I have to rmmod the ath5k module that comes with the install, and then load the ath_pci module built from source. Then, I insert the wireless card(if it's already inserted, it doesn't work). Neither network manager nor kinternet will show the wireless as working. If I use the traditional method with ifup/down, and specify the name of the network, it will work. However, you also have to use "dhcpcd ath0" to get the ip address. Test machine is a Wallstreet Series II G3/266. Wifi cards are Netgear WG511T (108g) and DLink DWL-G630(54g) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

after checking the madwifi site, I found that they have created a fully foss driver that is now part of the wireless-2.6 tree (http://madwifi.org/wiki/About/ath5k) That should remove any legal problems.
That is correct. And that one is part of OpenSUSE 11.0 already :) Any objections against closing this report? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
