[Bug 329687] New: Kernel 2.6.22. 5-29-bigsmp fails to find logical partitions during boot
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=329687 Summary: Kernel 2.6.22.5-29-bigsmp fails to find logical partitions during boot Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jehawking@yahoo.co.uk QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer During a recent update using yast software management, I updated the kernel to 2.6.22.5-29-bigsmp. When the system rebooted after the update, it failed to find /dev/sda5 and /dev/sda6. sda5 contains my main Linux filing system and sda6 my home directories. Both are logical partitions within an extended partition (sda2). The sda1, sda2, sda3 and sda4 partitions were found OK and appeared in /dev. Eventually, I re-installed the same kernel but this did not correct the problem. Then I uninstalled the 2.6.22.5-29 kernels (XEN and bigsmp) and installed kernel 2.6.22.3-7-default which was on the original 10.3 DVD that I had downloaded a few weeks ago. The system worked again - perfectly. No other changes were made at this point. All installs/uninstalls were done with Yast so initrd and grub were updated accordingly. sda1 is an NTFS partition containing Windows, sda4 is my swop partition and sda3 contains a dos file system. The drive is a PATA drive so historically these have been hda, but they worked as sda before the upgrade and after. Maybe not related- but originally Yast offered the -29 kernel as a patch which it flagged as not installable because of unsatisfied dependencies. I updated a lot of other programmes (not as patches) and eventually did a "Update all in this list if update available". I only overrode one dependency problem which was gstreamer - certainly not a kernel one - yet the kernels were updated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
