[Bug 1174493] New: x11vnc cannot connect to X server anymore
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174493 Bug ID: 1174493 Summary: x11vnc cannot connect to X server anymore Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org Assignee: gfx-bugs@suse.de Reporter: P.Suetterlin@royac.iac.es QA Contact: gfx-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I just did an TW update 20200701->20200721 (on two machines) After this update, I cannot connect to a running X server on the updated machine anymore. I use x11vnc_ssh for this, i.e.: woodstock:~% x11vnc_ssh astro@astro1 (woodstock and astro1 are the two 0721 machines). I get an error right away Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyInvalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key25/07/2020 21:21:45 XOpenDisplay(":0") failed. 25/07/2020 21:21:45 Trying again with XAUTHLOCALHOSTNAME=localhost ... Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyNo protocol specified 25/07/2020 21:21:45 XOpenDisplay(":0") failed. 25/07/2020 21:21:45 Trying again with unset XAUTHLOCALHOSTNAME ... Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyNo protocol specified 25/07/2020 21:21:45 *************************************** 25/07/2020 21:21:45 *** XOpenDisplay failed (:0) It has been working before the update without any problems, and I can still connect that way to both another TW machine still running 20200701 or some old Leap 42.3 computers. So it seems something has changed on the server side. 0701 has x11vnc-0.9.16-2.1, 0721 has x11vnc-0.9.16-2.2, so it was only recompiled... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174493 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174493#c1 --- Comment #1 from Peter Sütterlin <P.Suetterlin@royac.iac.es> --- An addition: If I figure out the correct XAUTH file on the remote machine (i.e., the /run/user/<UID>/xauth_<random> one), I can use x11vnc_ssh astro@astro1 "-auth /run/user/****/xauth_******" and get a session. So it seems x11vnc is no longer able to find that file by itself in the latest TW version? (the suggested '-findauth' and '-auth guess' options don't work either) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is this the same issue as with x0vncserver from TigerVNC? Or separate bug?
x0vncserver -display :0 Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyNo protocol specified x0vncserver: unable to open display ":0"
If I issue that command in a terminal it does work here, so that is probably a different thing. I do get such an error message if I connect to localhost via the x11vnc_ssh script, but that is of course the same as trying it on a different host. As of TW20200826, the problem persists :( -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
