https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=460908 Summary: Installaton error "Are your sure CD1 is in hard drive" Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: simon.lewis@slnet-online.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Community User Tried to install openSUSE 11.1 final by booting from DVD. "Installation" was selected from DVD Grub Menu after changing language to "Deutsch". Linux Kernel is loaded from DVD. Pressed ESC to see log messages. Hardware detection runs... Then screen changes to text graphic mode with error message "Are your sure CD1 is in hard drive". Pressing return with OK highlighted repeats same error message. It seems that after probing hardware the DVD drive can no longer be read. The openSUSE 10.3 and 11.0 installations were both performed perfectly on this PC without any problems or error messages. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please, provide some info about your hardware.
I have added attachments for dmesg and hwinfo. (For comparison I have also added openSUSE 11.0 outputs as well. You will note the openSUSE 11.1 has difficulty identifying the hardware compared to openSUSE 11.0.)
William, try too boot in safe mode.
openSUSE 11.1 Installation DVD booted with "safe mode" kernel, installation was completed, but graphic UI did not start with installed system, instead the installed openSUSE 11.1 defaulted to the text console. Logging in as "root", and using command "startx",I was able to start KDE4. The PC was very slow compared to openSUSE 11.0 / KDE 3.5.10. The openSUSE 11.1 installation has no dma support etc.. I also found that the grub boot installation from openSUSE 11.1 was faulty. After shutting down openSUSE 11.1 and rebooting the error message was "no operating system found". Using the openSUSE 11.1 installation DVD to repair the openSUSE 11.1 installation, the "automatic repair" determined that the packages "cups driver", "hal", "glibc -locale", "ntp" and "postfix" were not installed. Could this result from booting the installation DVD with safe mode kernel? Also, the grub installation was faulty and could not be repaired. Using the openSUSE 11.0 installation DVD to repair the openSUSE 11.0 installation I was able to reinstall grub to start openSUSE 11.0. By way of explanation my hard drive has partitions for: swap (sda5) root of openSUSE 11.1 (sda6) root of openSUSE 11.0 (sda7) /home (sda8) Thus I always have a working system (currently openSUSE 11.0) and a possibilty to try out new distribution releases (in this case openSUSE 11.1).
