[Bug 328798] New: general protection fault (Live-CD): EIP is at lkup_plink+0x14/0x110 [aufs] (2.6.22.5-31-default #1)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=328798#c1 Summary: general protection fault (Live-CD): EIP is at lkup_plink+0x14/0x110 [aufs] (2.6.22.5-31-default #1) Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: RC 2 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- (I'm amazed that using the wrong wall paper is a critical bug these days...; here's a real one) I had a kernel protection fault for both Live-CDs (GNOME and KDE) shortly after having pugged in an USB memory stick. The machine has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor and an nVidia nForce 4 chipset. RAM is ECC protected, and CDs verifies the MD5 checksum. After the protection fault, you cannot start new processes, and you cannot log in to a new terminal. However I could save one complete "dmesg" (which will go to an attachment) very soon. BTW: The Live-CDs have no "ksymoops" Here's the fault: Linux version 2.6.22.5-31-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.2.1 (SUSE Lin ux)) #1 SMP 2007/09/21 22:29:00 UTC [...] general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP last sysfs file: /block/sde/sde1/stat Modules linked in: nls_iso8859_1 nls_cp437 vfat fat snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss sn d_seq snd_ice1724 snd_ice17xx_ak4xxx snd_ak4114 snd_pt2258 snd_i2c snd_ak4xxx_ad da snd_mpu401_uart snd_rawmidi snd_seq_device snd_intel8x0 snd_ac97_codec snd_pc m snd_timer snd lp ip6t_LOG nf_conntrack_ipv6 xt_pkttype ipt_LOG xt_limit edd ip 6t_REJECT xt_tcpudp ipt_REJECT xt_state iptable_mangle iptable_nat nf_nat iptabl e_filter ip6table_mangle nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_conntrack nfnetlink ip_tables ip6t able_filter ip6_tables x_tables ipv6 cpufreq_conservative cpufreq_userspace cpuf req_powersave powernow_k8 apparmor joydev ac97_bus sata_nv thermal ata_generic u sbhid hid button processor libata ff_memless ohci1394 ieee1394 rtc_cmos i2c_nfor ce2 rtc_core rtc_lib soundcore snd_page_alloc i2c_core k8temp hwmon parport_pc p arport ohci_hcd aufs squashfs loop sg st sd_mod ide_disk nls_utf8 BusLogic ide_c d sr_mod cdrom usb_storage scsi_mod generic ehci_hcd usbcore forcedeth amd74xx i de_core CPU: 1 EIP: 0060:[<f9637684>] Tainted: G N VLI EFLAGS: 00010282 (2.6.22.5-31-default #1) EIP is at lkup_plink+0x14/0x110 [aufs] eax: 00000000 ebx: 00000000 ecx: ddc75cec edx: 00000000 esi: f79e5c00 edi: 00000000 ebp: e67d95c8 esp: def91da4 ds: 007b es: 007b fs: 00d8 gs: 0000 ss: 0068 Process aufsd (pid: 3580, ti=def90000 task=dfe93570 task.ti=def90000) Stack: 0004edb8 00000000 00000004 de758c00 ddc34c6c e67d95c8 00000000 f964bc66 def91df8 00000000 f7d93b64 ffffffff def91e98 e67d963c f963904d e67d9ca8 f7d93b64 00000000 00000000 ddc34c44 ddc75cec f964b781 cd5f1258 e0c63be8 Call Trace: [<f964bc66>] set_h_iptr+0x196/0x280 [aufs] [<f963904d>] vfsub_notify_change+0x9d/0x130 [aufs] [<f964b781>] ibend+0x31/0x50 [aufs] [<f9633e73>] cpup_single+0xc23/0xe00 [aufs] [<c017eb60>] d_alloc+0x14b/0x17e [<c017dff5>] d_rehash+0x1c/0x2b [<c0187de5>] simple_lookup+0x28/0x2f [<c01775b2>] lookup_one_len+0xb3/0xd3 [<c017ec3b>] dput+0x21/0xe8 [<f963c565>] lkup_neg+0x155/0x270 [aufs] [<f9634128>] cpup_simple+0xd8/0x1d0 [aufs] [<c0103fa4>] __switch_to+0xaf/0x183 [<f9634a23>] call_cpup_simple+0x33/0x50 [aufs] [<f96381b0>] wkq_func+0x0/0xe0 [aufs] [<f96381c6>] wkq_func+0x16/0xe0 [aufs] [<c0131247>] run_workqueue+0x7e/0x114 [<c0131a5a>] worker_thread+0x0/0xca [<c0131b16>] worker_thread+0xbc/0xca [<c01341b9>] autoremove_wake_function+0x0/0x33 [<c0131a5a>] worker_thread+0x0/0xca [<c01340f2>] kthread+0x38/0x5e [<c01340ba>] kthread+0x0/0x5e [<c0106117>] kernel_thread_helper+0x7/0x10 ======================= Code: 24 0c 8b 74 24 10 8b 7c 24 14 83 c4 18 c3 89 f6 8d bc 27 00 00 00 00 55 57 56 89 c6 53 89 d0 83 ec 58 8b 3d 04 f5 65 f9 0f be d8 <65> 8b 15 14 00 00 00 89 54 24 54 31 d2 89 4c 24 1c 85 ff 0f 85 EIP: [<f9637684>] lkup_plink+0x14/0x110 [aufs] SS:ESP 0068:def91da4 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=328798#c3 --- Comment #3 from Ulrich Windl <Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de> 2007-09-27 06:39:03 MST --- About the "RESOLVED DUPLICATE": The call trace of bug #325601 looks completely different, and it's not that just USB is unusable here, it seems the VFS is blocked then. Also that bug report was against beta3 (which most likely has a different kernel). I don't think it's a duplicate. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
