[Bug 824564] New: Update google-droid-fonts to include new Droid Arabic, Droid Serif Thai, etc.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=824564 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=824564#c0 Summary: Update google-droid-fonts to include new Droid Arabic, Droid Serif Thai, etc. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sknorr@novell.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 Google seem to have been hard at work getting new internationalised versions of their Droid fonts out. It would be cool, if the package reflected that. You can download the fonts from the webfonts repository, i.e. from: http://code.google.com/p/googlefontdirectory/source/browse/#hg%2Fapache%2Fdr... etc. The fonts that I don't see in my installation are: * Droid Arabic Kufi (although I guess an earlier version was called Droid Sans Arabic – and that one is indeed included) * Droid Arabic Naskh * Droid Sans Ethiopic * Droid Sans Tamil * Droid Serif Thai But maybe the other Droid fonts were updated in the meantime too. Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Maybe yes, maybe not, but these two are other families than Droid Sans Arabic. Document requesting Droid Sans Arabic will not see them. fontconfig rule would fix that, but to which arabic family should we map Droid Sans Arabic? We can simply package all of them.
* Droid Sans Ethiopic * Droid Sans Tamil * Droid Serif Thai
I do not see Droid Sans Japanese and Droid Sans Hebrew there. Maybe we can add files holding families above to the current google-droid-fonts package. To clarify: I would map Sans Arabic to Arabic Kufi. I am certainly not an Arabic expert, though – I probably can't really tell, therefore.

So why you would do that (just curious)?

I guess, Arabic Kufi is indeed some kind of continuation of the work in Sans Arabic At the same time, the line heights of the two fonts are very different – as you can see Arabic Kufi has around 140% of the line height of Sans Arabic. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've looked at http://www.droidfonts.com/droidfonts/, citing from there: »Each of the Droid fonts contains an extensive character set with coverage including Western Europe, Eastern/Central Europe, Baltic, Cyrillic, Greek and Turkish. Support for CJK is provided by the Droid Sans "fallback" font. This font contains over 43,000 glyphs and includes support for Simplified Chinese (GB2312), Traditional Chinese (Big 5), Japanese (JIS 0208) and Korean (KSC 5601). This font uses the Simplified Chinese ideographs for shared Unicode code points.« Doesn't help either... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I would agree with Stefan that google repo probably contains the latest versions: I would vote to pick all Droid*.ttf from https://android.googlesource.com/platform/frameworks/base/+/master/data/font... I can do that after vacation which I have next week (tomorow is public holiday here in cz) if you have no objection against. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
