[Bug 965653] New: kactivitymanage segfaults in libQt5Sql.so.5.5.1
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=965653 Bug ID: 965653 Summary: kactivitymanage segfaults in libQt5Sql.so.5.5.1 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: abittner@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I revisited my leap 42.1 test machine and today lot of stuff on the kde desktop was real slow, even alt+f1 console login or su or sudo zypper ref all took ages. then even everything on the kde desktop was nonreactive except for the mouse cursor that still moved and was displayed, and I hit ctrl alt backspace or something to reset or kill the graphics stack. eventually I find recent entries of segfaults (via dmesg) [Mon Feb 8 16:50:51 2016] kactivitymanage[15275]: segfault at 7fe1dce05d10 ip 00007fe1dd04c69a sp 00007ffdc452e3c8 error 4 in libQt5Sql.so.5.5.1[7fe1dd037000+3f000 [Mon Feb 8 16:36:29 2016] kactivitymanage[929]: segfault at 7fc6daef5d10 ip 00007fc6db13c69a sp 00007ffec5560d38 error 4 in libQt5Sql.so.5.5.1[7fc6db127000+3f000] before those there only was a segfault at [Sat Feb 6 06:54:56 2016] sddm-greeter[377]: segfault at 10 ip 0000000000436f75 sp 00007ffdbe31c3d0 error 4 in sddm-greeter[400000+46000] and then even longer before that [Mon Feb 1 09:54:49 2016] kactivitymanage[1806]: segfault at 7ffa0d9fbd10 ip 00007ffa0dc4269a sp 00007ffc11ae3468 error 4 in libQt5Sql.so.5.5.1[7ffa0dc2d000+3f000] No more segfaults for this uptime session of the machine. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

That kactivitymanagerd crash is likely unrelated and can be ignored. It's a bug in Qt5 and has been workarounded in later versions of kactivities5, but shouldn't cause real problems.
PS, for further clarification: AFAIK this crash only happens on logout, when kactivitymanagerd quits. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I dont know what processes or parts have been waiting or hanging or why, but something was wrong.
Well, but that's not enough information to do anything about it, I'm afraid. As I wrote, the kactivitymanagerd crash is on logout and should not be a problem. Closing as WORKSFORME, feel free to reopen (or file a new bug report) if it happens again. But if zypper didn't print anything in the xterm, it might not have been a KDE problem I suppose, but on a lower level. Maybe kwin (the window manager/compositor) crashed, though. The problem in this case is that drkonqi (the crash dialog) "grabs" the process for debugging, which makes the whole graphical session appear to freeze (except for the mouse pointer, but you cannot interact with anything). So, if it should happen again, try to only kill "kwin_x11" from a text mode console instead of the whole X session. If that is the problem, everything should work fine again then, you should even be able to restart kwin_x11 manually. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

On further thought, if the maintenance team agrees, we probably should add the KDE workaround for the kactivitymanagerd crash to the running update.
Please submit, will be merged. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

is this supposed to be fixed already?
i just looked at my dmesg and it prints
[339876.511255] kactivitymanage[1916]: segfault at 7f20c80e9d10 ip 00007f20c810069a sp 00007fff57a246c8 error 4 in libQt5Sql.so.5.5.1[7f20c80eb000+3f000]
Well, the patch for the upstream bug report has been added to our 5.16.0 packages, and it is included upstream in 5.18.0 and higher. So yes, it is supposed to be fixed. Either the fix is not working, it broke again in 5.19.0, or this is a new/different crash. But again, this is harmless. Feel free to add a comment to the upstream bug report, although it is still open and confirmed though. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348194 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
