This breaks tools (like e.g. dblatex) that call makeindex and specify absolute pathname to /tmp for intermediate files. The option 'p' ( = paranoid) does not allow absolute path names. Why do you think I should change this? You may discuss this with the TeXLive people as I'd like *not* to change upstream in this case. I was filing the bug as it was a regression. This worked before.
