When doing the search on open-vm-tools (to see if it was marked for installation), it was NOT marked for installation. I selected it for installation, rebooted, and noticed that the guestd was starting, but failing because of unavailable kernel modules. Regarding your question: rpm doesn't pick anything, it just checks dependencies. So you'll get an error message if you try to install open-vm-tools and on vmware-kmp is installed. If you mean the libzypp solver, yes it'll pick up the correct one because of the 'Enhances' in the kmps.
