A second server (same hardware) is installed with OpenSuse 10.3, no problem. Perhaps this could help identify what's really the problematic service. Refer to /etc/sysconfig/boot, variables PROMPT_FOR_CONFIRM and RUN_PARALLEL (you can modify them when having the system mounted e.g. while the installation CD is booted). Since the scritps run in parallel, I cannot assure which one is the one that fails.
