[Bug 221200] New: Disabling deletion of no longer available packages is hard
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221200 Summary: Disabling deletion of no longer available packages is hard Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rguenther@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com 1. on the update screen notice that the update wants to de-install 65 packages 2. de-select "remove unmaintained packages" 3. now down to 25 4. for example 'autogen' is still removed (because it is appearantly not on the DVD5) 5. change it to "keep" 6. solving will mark it for deletion again. 7. change it to "taboo" (what was it called? the one "dont' touch me") 8. solving will show an update problem, "cannot delete autogen" with one of the solution "keep autogen" 9. select that 10. solver is happy, autogen is kept. I must be missing something... this is uh, well, somewhat backward. I would expect _all_ packages to be kept if "remove unmaintained packages" is not selected (apart from packages which cause conflicts). At least I would expect yast to honor the "keep" flag, or at least complain before removing it again. I would also expect some more useful update problem than "cannot delete it". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221200 ------- Comment #3 from rguenther@novell.com 2006-11-16 02:02 MST ------- y2logRPM shows 2006-11-15 05:20:35 guile-1.8.1-17.x86_64.rpm install failed rpm output: error: Failed dependencies: libguile-ltdl.so.1()(64bit) is needed by (installed) autogen-5.8.1-14.3.x86_64 libguile.so.12()(64bit) is needed by (installed) autogen-5.8.1-14.3.x86_64 (after forcing autogen not to be deleted) But this is nowhere communicated! Yast should say _why_ it wants to remove/not keep autogen. So it actually makes sense to remove autogen as the old version will no longer work with the above guile version. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
