[Bug 308970] New: kernel update 2.6.22.5-12 doesn't create initrd
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=308970#c2290959 Summary: kernel update 2.6.22.5-12 doesn't create initrd Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 3 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rmatov101@charter.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer The latest kernel 2.6.22.5-12-default from update repositories has bug in postinstall script that prevents creation of initrd, making system unbootable. Bootloader is on different partition and script test for /boot/groob/menu.lst fails, making script to skip creation of initrd. This has happened in 10.2 (bug #2290959), but it was corrected later (in 10.3 kernels) and I closed the bug report. Now it is added new function in a POSTIN script, run_bootloader () that is testing is there need to edit boot loader, and bug reintroduced. Kernel update finished without any error messages, like the one in script: echo "Please run mkinitrd as soon as your system is complete." Please separate initrd from boot loader related stuff, tests and error messages. IMHO, saving few bytes and milliseconds is not worth having trouble every time new function is added. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
