When I'm connected to the non-proxy network, I disable the proxy but environment variables remains. In that case, zypper (and wget) only works if I run, for example: env -u http_proxy -u ftp_proxy zypper lu -t package I'm using openSUSE 11.0 with gnome 2.22.
