As you can see in some places it uses the fallback unicode bitmap font (b16.pcf). Can you have a look at the font config and see what's wrong?

Also, why wqy-bitmapfont? We're not using bitmap fonts, so what would be the point?

Because bitmap font gives a better visual effect than AA font in Chinese.
