There is one thing missing in the buildservice package. The problem is that nspluginwrapper has to register new plugins which are installed. So there is some mechanism needed to recognize new installed 32bit plugins and register them with nspluginwrapper automatically. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If ssh did not work, than it may be a different problem than missing nss modules. But I cannot reproduce:
- ssh works in all cases
hmm, I can't reproduce ATM. (Need an IPv6 setup again first)
- firefox does not work with both mdns_minimal and mdns4_minimal, if 32-bit nss-mdns is not installed
I don't know then. I can for sure reproduce that Firefox works, if either - IPv6 is disabled (about:config) - mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] - mdns_minimal (w/o the NOTFOUND rule) is used. Are you sure that you restarted Firefox when you changed nsswitch.conf?
- firefox works with both mdns_minimal and mdns4_minimal, if 32-bit nss-mdns is installed
I haven't tested this at all. I _don't_ have that installed and it still works for me if I use an option from above. In the end I agree that in theory there has to be a 32bit library of nss-mdns if a 32bit application is trying to use it (through nss) but I'm still wondering why the above options also work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I run the Firefox from the mozilla repository on 10.2 x86-64 with the following config in nsswitch.conf: hosts: files mdns dns and that works for me correctly. libnss_mdns is in package mDNSResponder on 10.2 which is 64bit for me. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249686#c42 --- Comment #42 from Rainer Klier <kra@ecolog.at> 2007-07-20 05:40:01 MST --- this is my /etc/nsswitch.conf: passwd: compat group: compat hosts: files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns networks: files dns services: files protocols: files rpc: files ethers: files netmasks: files netgroup: files nis publickey: files bootparams: files automount: files nis aliases: files i never change that file. after reading this bug-report i tried the following: because under 10.2 there is no special nss-mdns-32-bit package, but there are two mutually-excluding nss-mdns packages for 32bit and 64bit (both used from the GNOME:STABLE repo from repo-server), i first installed the 32bit version. then i copied the files /lib/libnss_mdns* to save place /tmp/libnss_mdns32Bit. then i installed the 64bit version of nss-mdns. then i copied back the files from /tmp/libnss_mdns32Bit to /lib. so after this i had BOTH versions of nss-mdns installed. 64bit versions under /lib64 and 32bit versions under /lib. after this everything works again. so in fact i "virtually" installed the non-existent nss-mdns-32bit package. and because the solution/workaround works the same way, i think this bug has really the same cause. but why did this not happen before latest update? the question is: is this workaround a better or worse solution than editing the file /etc/nsswitch.conf? should i change the /etc/nsswitch.conf? another thing is, that i don't have installed mDNSResponder. i have installed mDNSResponder-lib and mDNSResponder-lib-32bit, but not mDNSResponder. should i remove the package nss-mdns and install mDNSResponder instead? whould this be a better solution than having nss-mdns-32bit-libs installed? and whould opening a bug be succesfull, because i got this bug only because of updating gnome and firefox with repos from repo-server, and i think these update-versions are not supported.... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Your issue is _not_ a Firefox update but an update which modified your /etc/nsswitch.conf The entry hosts: files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns is to blame but I'm not sure how you got it. The nss-mdns packages in the GNOME:STABLE repo seem to be contraproductive since the buildservice has no ideas of -32bit packages and therefore your system can't work without manual interaction if you update from GNOME:STABLE. Opening a bug is still useful since the people behind GNOME:STABLE are probably interested in fixing that somehow. So please open a new bugreport against openSUSE 10.2 and make clear that it's caused most probably by the GNOME:STABLE repo and reference this bug as information. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
