[Bug 1105030] New: Evolution missing dependency on enchant-2-backend-hunspell
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1105030 Bug ID: 1105030 Summary: Evolution missing dependency on enchant-2-backend-hunspell Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME Assignee: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: robert.munteanu@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- With TW 20180812 Evolution no longer has the option to spell check messages in the english language. The message view menu Edit → Current Languages only shows "Unknown (fi)". After installing enchant-2-backend-hunspell ( the others were installed ) 'Unknown (en_US)' appears as an option. Which is not that nice but progress. It seems to me that there is at least a 'Recommends' entry missing, possibly others. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

But having Evolution recommend any specific language dictionary is definitively not the way to go. Evolution needs the backend to be able to work with spell checkers - it has no 'need' for a special language selection (there are people that don't ever write anything in English, so forcing English upon them is also not the best of solutions - but an option we are considering; but that certainly won't happen from the Evolution side of things but rather on the underlying enchant library - so that all consumers of this library can profit -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also note that I did not install a dictionary language, just the backend itself. It looks like the en_US dictionary was installed, but not picked up because the enchant-2-backend-hunspell package was not present. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
