I use irserver (IR-Trans server) with lirc support that always "eats up" /dev/lirc0 for my input and lirc_serial is my ir transmitter. --not part of this issue, did reproduce problem with another PC w/o irserver installed. I can do a workaround with udev renaming the devices and such but this should be fixed??? kernel 2.6.31.8-0.1-default x86_64 on AMD Thank You. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. In /etc/modprobe.d/99-local.conf: alias char-major-61-1 lirc_serial 2. In /etc/udev/rules.d/97-local.rules: KERNEL=="lirc[0-9]*", NAME="lirc%n" 3. depmod -a 4. /etc/init.d/boot.udev restart (--or reload udev rules command) 5. setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none 6. modprobe lirc_serial Actual Results: Device should have MAJOR 61 and MINOR 1 as /dev/lirc1 but has MAJOR 61 MINOR 0 /dev/lirc0 instead every time on two different machines. modinfo lirc_serial does not show alias char-magor-61-1 but I'm not sure if it used to either.
