If you keep cycling the buttons with the tab key, *even though the button may be highlighted* does not not mean spacebar will work. You can tell because the /text/ of the button has a slight outline to it when it will work, and no outline when it won't. This appears to affect most of the screens (I did not do an exhaustive test). This is under qemu and real hardware. Comment 7 is also critical here - using the tab key to cycle through the various active elements in the UI has some sort of logic error. While the cycling itself works fine, *every other* highlight of a *button* prevents activation by space bar. It's really easy to test (I, too, am a fan of Virtualbox as well....) "Boot" your install media and when you get to the user details screen (this is not the only one but it's the easiest) use the tab bar to cycle through the highlights until the Next button is highlighted. Pay special attention to the region surrounding the "Next" text *inside* the button. Now press tab again and cycle through until Next is highlighted once more. Notice that the highlight is not the same - the button is also not "pressable" with the spacebar. In the second screen shot (comment #13), [Next] is still the default button, but it does NOT have the focus. A default button is a button that gets activated when you press [Return] anywhere in the dialog, no matter where the keyboard focus is. This is handy for dialogs with a number of input fields so you can send off the data without navigating to that button first.
